The Journey: Part 1 (in pictures)

May car is packed - it's just me and the road. Love the journey.

"I woke up as the sun was reddening; and that was the one distinct time in my life, the strangest moment of all, when I didn't know who I was - I was far away from home, haunted and tired with travel, in a cheap hotel room I'd never seen, and really I didn't who I was for about fifteen strange seconds. I wasn't scared; I was just somebody else, some stranger, and my whole life was a haunted life, the life of a ghost. I was halfway acroos America, at the diving line between the East of my youth hand the West of my future, and maybe that's why it happened right there and then, that strange red afternoon..."

The rolling hills and cornfields of Iowa.

Omaha, somewhere in middle America...

The biggest false advertisement of the half-century. Nebraska is definitely not the good life.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, anywhere. If the Devil exists, he definitely lives in Nebraska.

A stupid arch over the road - by FAR the most exciting thing in Nebraska.

Finally out of Nebraska - thank God. I can't even tell you how much skill it took to get this picture and drive simultaneously. I timed it just right. One of the major high points of my drive.
And the heavens part...

Proof that God does exist, once you cross the state line.

Sterling, CO. Smalltown America, and the cineplex (showing the Dark Knight) is of course the center of the whole town.

Boulder, CO
