Baz Luhrmann is adapting the Great Gatsby!

In honor of this amazing news, one of my favorite Gatsby quotes:

"He had come a long way to this blue lawn, and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it."

This is going to be amazing.

The Sign of the Apocolypse

Mamma Mia! has surpassed Titanic in the UK as the highest grossing film of all time.

Seriously? What the fuck.

Literary Quote of the Day

"I was 12 going on 13 the first time I saw a dead human being. It happened in the summer of 1959 - a long time ago, but only if you measure in terms of years. I was living in a small town in Oregon called Castle Rock; there were only twelve hundred and eighty-one people, but to me it was the whole world."

- from The Body, by Stephen King

Awards season is beginning to suck...

As Revolutionary Road, Gran Torino, and Defiance were all very disappointing.

Well, that is unless you like Clint Eastwood using his fingers to pretend to shoot guns at people...

(I put up the picture of Defiance because it sucked the least out of the three)

John Mayer, and he's funny too!

Great Pictures From Around the World...

Harry Eden - Actor to watch

Is it just me, or does he look like a young Christian Bale (circa Empire of the Sun)?

I don't know. For some reason, I think this kid's gonna make it.

Spring Awakening

I really wanted to like this musical. I bought into all the hype and loved the soundtrack. But after finally seeing it, I think the soundtrack is the only thing I loved about it.

SA follows a very mediocre and tonally challenged story with the only redeemable feature being the music by Duncan "Barely Breathing" Sheik.

Oh, and the first act is a hell of a lot better than the second. Lighthearted fun and comedy turns into Debbie Downer pretty fast.

Love the music, skip the story.

Give me that hand, please
And the itch you can't control
Let me teach you how to handle
All the sadness in your soul
Oh, we'll work that silver magic
Then we'll aim it at the wall
She said: Love may make you blind kid-
But I wouldn't mind at all

Che is Medellin

I would like to draw attention to the similarities between Che and Medellin.

1. The subject matter (obviously)

2. They decided to film Che entirely in Spanish. Same with Medellin.

3. Medellin premiered at Cannes and got horrendous reviews. So did Che. Che was then recut and presented again at Toronto where it saw good reviews.

Maybe we haven't seen the end of Medellin...

P.S. This might be my most insightful post yet.

HAIL!!

Michigan 81 vs. Duke 73

We are no longer a rebuilding team. Top 25...

DANCE!!

Black Balloon

This is seriously one of the most disappointing movies I have ever seen.

Avoid at all costs.

If this film won the Berlin Film Festival, I want to know what other movies were there??

Slumdog wins National Board of Review!

It's definitely the best film of the year.

OSCAR!!

Nothing Like the Holidays

So Cameron and I went to the premiere of Nothing Like the Holidays last night, and I have to say I was not disappointed with the movie. The only reason being that I had no expectations.

This movie is nothing if not formulaic, using the same old tired genre conventions and bringing absolutely nothing new.

Actually, many times I was confused as to when I was supposed to laugh and when I was supposed to cry and just ended up doing neither.

Do yourself a favor - if you want to see a holiday movie watch Love Actually.

Best Song

Amazing song from a truly epic movie (the best of '08 thus far).

It's my choice for Best Song of 2008 come Oscar time in February (you have to see the movie to get just how good it is).

R Pat doesn't give a shit and he wants you to know

Behold the nasty profile imdb picture of Robert Pattinson, currently the site's number one movie star (and I use the term 'movie star' VERY loosely).

And who is this kid's publicist that allowed this to go up?

The whole "I don't give a shit" act really pisses me off. You just landed on the winning lottery ticket, bud. Start fucking acting like it.

R Pat is going nowhere fast.

What Doesn't Kill You

Trailer actually looks pretty good, I think. Worth keeping an eye on...

Y: The Last Man

Benderspink, the company that I work for, is developing this comic into a movie. I read all of the issues over break and I have to say that it is truly amazing material.

It's that rare thing, a piece of pop-fiction that is extremely smart and well-written as well as completely uncompromising. It's truly epic and I recommend it to you all.

4.5/5

ROME

Great news as Rome creator Bruno Heller wants to make a film picking up where the prematurely canceled series left off.

"I discovered halfway through writing the second season the show was going to end," Heller said. "The second was going to end with death of Brutus. Third and fourth season would be set in Egypt. Fifth was going to be the rise of the messiah in Palestine. But because we got the heads-up that the second season would be it, I telescoped the third and fourth season into the second one, which accounts for the blazing speed we go through history near the end. There's certainly more than enough history to go around."

I think it's got a pretty good shot as HBO has already said that they shouldn't have canceled the show.

I love this series.
